What Did You Just Say?!?

Are we really "cowards"?

Is it truly that "everyone" is cowardly?

Is it fatigue...

Is it frustration...

Is it disgust...

Is it confusion...

Is it denial...

Is it anger...

Is it shame...

Well, it's 2009 and it seems in many ways we aren't much further along, in terms of having difference making discussions than we were in 1969...

Please notice, i didn't say we weren't further along in terms of legal rights or equal access, much of that has been addressed (rightly so) through state and federal legislatures and our court system...

But there is something still "missing".....

But then again, maybe the attorney general has a point....

What do you think?

I just heard on the news this morning a poll of the most admired/respected/something along those lines, Obama was #1 and MLK was #3. This wasn't just Black Americans, it was everyone. I just can't buy into much of what Mr. Holder had to say. I'm not saying there isn't ground to be gained, but I think too many benefit or just don't know how to deal with a culture where their notions of prejudice are changed and are no longer as bad as they once were. I would rather trumpet the positives and the progresses made and encourage folks to continue in that rather than pointing out the negatives that too often are painted with too broad a brush or are simply overstated.

Get pulled over for DWB with your family and get humilated for being pulled over for driving to slow(Translation: Driving while black)....get mistaken for a courier at your place of business as opposed to the professional you are ....next time somebody walks up to you and says to "You look just like so-so" and you and the person whom they think you look like have nothing in common, but the color of your skin...next time somebody asks to touch your child's hair becuase it is "different", please post that instance... please be sure to let me know the next time you are stopped in Walmart and asked by store clerk to empty the bag you are carrying to check for stolen items let me know...when any of these things stop happening to me I will start focusing on the "positives" and "progresses" we have made...talk is cheap...
